GET YOUR WAR ON
Nominee for TRR's Cartoonist of the Year Award
Our thanks go out to one of our most faithful readers, J.R.C., of Albany, N.Y., for sending along a link to one of the most clever web sites we have seen to date, particularly in the aftermath of September 11.
We're still not quite sure what to make of "Get Your War On," a political comic strip that -- for now at least -- is primarily dedicated to presenting a, shall we say, jaded look at American foreign policy in the Middle East. [Ed.: Advisory: Strips include considerable adult language. Well, actually teenage language, but you know what we mean.]
There is an aura of mystery associated with the site. The site's name appears to be "My new fighting technique is unstoppable," or MNFTIU, but we haven't figured out what that means, who's generating the site, or why the author has taken such a keen interest in the ongoing battle between the Jews and Palestinians over some God-forsaken patch of sand near the Dead Sea.
Not all of the the strips resonate with us, but we have to admit the cartoonist is very creative and has carved out quite a niche for himself. We think the open-minded persons among our readership will find the strips to be both humorous and creative.
The latest cartoon is priceless, taking on, as it does, both Ariel Sharon and Yasir Arafat, with neither emerging in a particularly positive light. Without a doubt, this is not a strip that could or would ever appear in a major American newspaper or magazine.
That may be sad, but do you know what? That's just the way we like it.
