AMERICA HELD HOSTAGE
The 96th Day in Captivity
Still No Word from Koppel, Cronkite

Readers who scan the invaluable sidebar published at right already are aware, from having read the top-of-the-column entry, "America Held Hostage," that Roy Hallums, an American civilian, has been held hostage by Iraqi extremists for 96 days.

Now that more than three months of captivity have passed, when will President I Don't Really Care acknowledge Mr. Hallums's horrific predicament, let alone his very existence?

Am I the only person who cares about this man?

Am I the only blogger who wonders why the likes of Ted Koppel and Walter Cronkite, two men whose overrated late-night shows and evening broadcasts, respectively, played no small role in destroying the reelection campaign of former President Jimmy Carter, have remained entirely, and shamefully, silent during this crisis, still unrecognized for the gravity it represents?
